Early A-H spanner?

Excuse my barging into this forum, but I have a stupid question. Do the spanners in the early A-H tool kits have "AH 100" on them? I found an open end wrench that's marked with AH 100 in the center (along with 7/16W and 3/8W at the ends). A friend of mine has a BN2, but he has no tool kit to look at. Any info would help.

Thanks for looking,
Phil.

I've been collecting and studying the tool kit items for Healeys for a long time. I thought I had seen it all. However, just a few days ago I saw in the latest edition of "Roadster," the publication of the Healey Drivers Club, a photo of such a wrench. Now I have been to many autojumbles/swap meets, and I've dug through a lot of piles and boxes of old tools. I've been in contact with several of the biggest, longest-established used tool dealers in England off and on for many years, and I had never before heard of nor seen such a thing.

It would be quite a wild coincidence if the “AH100” casting meant something else, such as a manufacturer's code or model designation for the wrench, but it seems inconceivable that tools were specially made for the Austin-Healey 100. There simply would not have been any reason to do so. As I said, I've been a keen student of the tool kits for 20 years, and I've seen many original tools and tool kits, and never has anything like this come up before.

My official position on this is: I do not know. I'm very skeptical that the AH100 means Austin-Healey 100, but I can't deny the possibility either, despite how out-of-character it is for the time and place of the cars. I would not leap to the conclusion that it is definitely for the AH100, and if anyone else comes across anything like this, it would be interesting to know its origins.

Sorry that I can’t give you a definitive answer.

Phil--

I have an original tool kit and there are no AH100 markings on any of my spanners nor any that I have seen.

How about a picture?

I found this at a local flea market in a box of tools. There were a number of British wrenches, and I bought them all. I'm into Jags (like you're into Healeys), so i'm always buying British tools and trade for stuff I need. (1 Jag spanner = 4 Austin spanners) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On this tool, the "AH" and the "100" are different sizes - about twice as big, so the letters or the numbers during the casting is changable.

I'm not very computer literate, so it would be a challenge to post a photo. Is it possible to link to the Healey Driver's Club, so I can see the spanner? Or I can give you my email address to send it to me.

Phil.

Hi Reid, might we concider that an earlier owner decided to mark His/Her tools. Maybe to just keep it straight as to which automobile in his stable the item belonged to. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Their website is Healey Drivers Club, but I don't think that their newsletter is available either online or as a PDF. It exists only in hard copy, so far as I know. You might contact them via email (email address on website) and see if they can help you that way.

That would be a reasonable assumption except for the fact that these are raised letters/numbers that we're talking about, a part of the casting. Very difficult to do after the fact! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
