Dutch axle windup video

Am posting this separately to make it easier to find in the future.

Here's a Dutch video of axle activity during a race. Amazing how it all doesn't just break immediately - especially the springs:

Are those springs mounted upside-down? Or is that the load from acceleration changing the arch?

Great stuff!. That's the video I was referring to. The springs are the right way up.

Like I said, I broke the grease fitting on my rear universal on mine.

I would not have been surprised to see the axle just come loose and fly apart in many pieces. Very impressive to actually see in action. I guess I never thought the rear suspension moved around that much and with such sudden and violent changes from acceleration to deceleration.

Would be interesting to see a similar video of the various tramp bars and tramp shocks on Healeys.

The FIA rules prohibit traction bars on Healeys so the racers across the pond build their rear springs with a very strong main leaf that helps to prevent windup. Even then you can see what happens. The car in the video is driven by Jaap Sinke, the son of Rinus Sinke, a Dutch Healey racer champion.
