Hi guys - finally getting the alloy rims put on the TR6 (only had then sitting around for four years - probably time) and noticed that the dust cap on the front hub was surprisingly warm to the touch.

That doesn't seem to be an overly wonderful thing, likely the bearing on the way out?

My guess is that it is just heat from the brake pad/rotor - pretty common for the whole thing to get toasty.

Phew. I like that answer Randy!

BTW - how is your project work coming along. Been living on airplanes and haven't asked in a while.

Tom-

Been doing the same thing, just finished a looonnnnggg trip around Asia Pacific. So my car stuff has been limited to this forum mostly. Hope that will change now with cooler weather about to arrive in Texas - need to tackle the bodywork on the 3A.

Randy

If both caps are warm, just brake heat. One only, then check the bearing.

Jack the front end up and wiggle the wheels. Any play equals either worn bearings or bearing nut too loose. Now rotate the tire. If if seems to not spin as freely as it should, then bearing nut may be too tight.
