Several chrome parts are held in place with what use to be called Dumb-dumb (spell?). The Napa guy in our town acted "dumb-dumb" when I asked for it. What is it now called and where can I get a modest amount as I found it to be used only on the chrome on the door at the windows (BJ8) and the surround of the top.
 
There's butyl rubber type strip caulking, or duct seal at the local Home Depot.

I wouldn't trust the duct seal to use as an adhesive though. The 3M butyl rubber strip caulk is available from Eastwood (or your local automotive paint supplier).
 
Try your local body shop. Give them a call or show up. They should be able to tell your their local source or just buy a couple feet of it from the shop.

I believe Moss or Victoria sells or used to sell it in a roll as the sealer between the shroud and wings.
 
:yesnod: The 3M brand strip caulk is referred to as "dum-dum" and is available at any auto paint shop or some well stocked auto parts stores. It has many uses, to name a few;
I put a small piece on the tip of my fingers then stack flat washers, split washers, nut then reach up and under any obstacle and start your screw, bolt whatever.
Also can be used to keep water, dirt debris etc. out of body cavities.
Also can be used to keep rust etc. from forming around bolt or screw threads.
I've also used it behind the rubber bulb holders on each corner.
Also, where the chrome parts touch metal.
You get the idea.
 
I like the idea of holding the washers and nuts. Is the strip easier to manipulate? Can it be balled up to take up the space between the chrome and the door of a BJ8? It's about a 1/4 inch gap. No;w if there were only an auto paint store up here.
