Dumb Dumb Question about Drum Brakes [pics]

It's been a long time since I rebuilt the drum brakes and I forgot how the e-brake lever fits in. Does it fit in like the first picture or the second. It's not clear in the manual.

Most such Girling rear wheel cylinders have two recesses on the bottom near the piston; those recesses should "trap" the pins on the e-brake lever.

Does this spring go on the outside or the inside, I think it goes on the inside.

Both inside on mine and top spring had a straight section in the center.
