dumb antifreeze question

Winter's here. You checked your one year old antifreeze a couple weeks ago; the Prestone "immerse the needle" gauge shows the protection is -25 degrees Fahrenheit.

Great.

But you heard this morning that next week the temp might go down to -30.

If that happens, does the block crack? or just the coolant turns slushy, or every single coolant hose and passage splits and explodes, or ...?

Thanks.

I think it may be time to move to a warmer climate.......

Amen.

The coolant may slush up. Can you find a way to put a 100W lightbulb under the hood (in a safe place away from gas)? It ~might~ help with a few degrees' wiggle room.
