Dug myself into another hole

I robbed the 1275 from my Bugeye for my $500 Midget. So I have been looking for a 1275 core to replace with no luck, I had a couple of 1098s laying around and had decided to go that route. Rebuild the 1098 with some upgrades, get a Datsun 5 speed adapter for my Datsun 5 speed, install a 390 gear. Should be a fun Bugeye.

I got to thinking why try to convert Datsun trans. to the 1098? Just install the Datsun motor too. Decided to buy an A14 Datsun motor. It was on Ebay cheap enough form a junk yard trying to get rid of old inventory.

80 HP stock, thinking with headers port and polished heads and an cammed just over stock so it will breath better shoud give me easy 90 dependable horse power.
Hoping it will be easy to convert during rebuild

Any "links" would be appreciated for the A14 Datsun crowd, I have done some research on the net, and seems not to be real complicated once I get the trans mounted using Rivergate parts.

Rich should chime in here momentarily... There is a performance head available for that motor which should make this project a lot more fun.

Get an oval port big intake head and a pair of side draft carbs on the thing.

When you pull the existing intake look at the intake ports, if they are small and round then you have the economy head. If they are oval then you are in luck.

Sourcing side draft SU intake manifold is the hardest bit, but intake manifolds for side draft Webers are still being produced (IIRC).

mrsprite on here has (I believe) a set of double valve spring rockers available - should you have (or get) the performance head and it has single springs.

You want to go visit Ratsun forums - lots of good stuff going on there.

Oh - and talk to Billm - he's got lots and lots of stuff, maybe even a good oval port head or two.

Oh, forgot to include a pic!
