Dual Circuit Brake Bleeding

I'm ready to get the brake and clutch systems functional again. All new lines (rigid & flex), rebuilt at all wheels, and rebuilt master brake and rebuilt both the clutch master & slave. My question is this: should the master cylinder be "bench bled"? I've seen comments on this in the forum and I've gone thru the shop manual and a Haynes manual for the car; neither of these references mentions "bench bleeding" either master. Opinions please...
If it matters... it's a 70 GT6+.
TIA,
Dave

Shouldn't be absolutely necessary, but it certainly won't hurt.

Another alternative is to do your first bleeding step right at the MC fittings. Since the reservoir is higher, you can just loosen the nut and hold a rag underneath while the MC gravity bleeds. When it quits blowing bubbles, tighten the fitting.

having bench bled other cylinders and admittedly trying to avoid the mess wherever possible, i have never had to bench bleed a tr6 brake master cylinder. i've had the pleasure of replacing my m/c three times in the past five years (bad new TRW one, short lived AH overhaul and finally a good TRW new unit...so far) and bled the system using a power bleeder.

i use a Motive Products power bleeder with the round universal adaptor which is too small to fit right on the tr6 master alone. i use a 1/2 inch close cell foam 'gasket' between the adaptor and the m/c opening and keep the pressure under 10psi. works well so far. email if you want pics.

Bought a used TR6 cap on ebay for my Motive and drilled it for an hose adapter.

PeterK, I got a spare cap and fitting. That is my plan for next time...though the foam adapter worked well...it just isn't a very elegant solution. w

Thanks for the responses. I did a bench bleed on the brake MC and made one heck of a mess! At the bench, on me, and on the car. Let's just say it would have made a great 'how NOT to' video. Luckily I'm changing the systems over to silicone fluid otherwise the car would be missing a bit of paint.
I don't have a power bleeder but I do have a vacuum bleeder that I'll use to finish up the brake system.
The clutch MC will stay off the bench. Less entertaining to the casual observer, but better for me.
