Driving once again, but have a question...

After 4 months of looking and not driving, the little GT is back on the road! Great fun... My question though, I am looking at exhaust now, what is the best way to go as far as a header/exhaust combo. Also does everyone prefer the crane ignition or petronix, or are they similar?
 
I like the PECO exhaust on my 80 B. Depending where you buy, it is available in stainless. If I remember correctly, Brit-Tek has the stainless PECO.
Also, once you have the header on the car, a good custom muffler shop can do a nice job. I needed to get a pipe bent a little differently on mine, and the pipe the local shop made for me was a much thicker gage the the PECO.
 
I use the Monza system and the stock header. It has a nice deep tone and I also noticed a little extra power. My ignition is the crane infra red but both systems work just as good. The petronix is cheaper so that would be a factor.

Another alternative would provide more power would be to have a custom header fabricated for a true dual exhaust, with a seperate pipe for each 2 cylinders. A guy in my club had this done to his MG B and loves it. From there he mounted a Monza exhaust on it I believe.
 
The Monza is a single exhaust system. It looks dual but only splits just under the bumper unless that guy put two Monzas on his.
 
Dual exhaust will create uneven backpressure and rob horsepower from the engine. It has been tried with negative results. A large bore single system mated to the excellent (yet heavy) stock manifold and header is a great combination. As far as complete systems go, the only exhaust system proven to increase power is the Peco, which yields about 3-4 extra HP on a stock engine in good order. See Peter Burgess' power tuning book for more information.
 
Put a 2 inch pipe down it with 2 small glass packs and thats as open as you want to go before you start loosing horse power. If you want more than that go with a bigger pipe, but dual exhaust is pointless on a 4 cylinder. Using a crossover pipe will equalize back breasure in the pipes for more power BTW.
 
I know a guy who is in my British car club who has had a custom true dual exhaust fabricated for his MG B, and he loves it. No uneven back pressure, and a gain of a couple horsepower in performance.

Did he actually put it on a Dyno..before and after? Or, is this, by the "Seat of the Pants" dyno-ing?

Hey, I'm a new guy. Regards to the exhaust, I have a 76B and had a local guy run a 2inch pipe straight off the stock manifold to a glass pack muffler. I don't know about a performace difference from stock because there was no exhaust on the car when I got it, but the car sounds great runs great and people look when I come down the street! Hmm... sorry for the delayed thanks, but thanks! Ive been busy with the MG. Ended up beginning fabrication for a turbo setup. Aquired a turbo, having the manifold welded up and carb enclosure is done now. Thats probably going to feed a 2 inch pipe all the way back.
