Drivers seat is too wide!

Yes, I mean the one attached to the car! I have been trying to get the drivers seat on my 1974 TR-6 to go back farther. I realized that the PO had installed the seat belt retractor down at floor level instead of up on the wheel well and the seat was hitting the retractor. I thought I had everything figured out, but the seat would not move back any farther when I relocated the retractor(there were still three adjustment holes left in the slider mechanism). I found that if I lifted the seat up, the seat would move back, but then it was nearly impossible to push the seat back down into place. I have attached a picture of the seat back adjustment lever hitting the side panel. It's just as tight on the other side. Any suggestions? The car does have sheepskin seat covers, but they don't seem to stick out that far. I don't think the seats have ever been re-done. Could the foam cushions have crushed out this much? Thanks for your help, David K.

I can't download you attachment. The seat foam shouldn't have nothing to do with the seat not going back since it sit on top of the diaphragm. The frame and adjustment handles are the only things at the base.

David,

Here is my thread from a couple weeks ago about this same thing. I was able to get a couple more inches of legroom, but like yours I have noticed the seat adjustment lever hits the wheelwell. I still have like 3-4 inches from the back of the seat to the rear deck, but since I have never seen another TR6, I am not sure if this is normal. Best of luck, I will keep watching your thread here as I am always looking for a little more room.

Brent, in the thread, it references spacers under the seats. My car didn't have them. I have ordered spacers and new bumpers for under the seats. Exactly where do the spacers go? I don't think they'll help much on the width problem, but they should give a little more height. I'll try one more time on the attachment. Thanks, David K.
