Driveline bolt hardness?

Hello all,
I'm reassembling my 76 TR6 driveline and I am planning to use grade 8 bolts but I can't remember what the conventional wisdom is on bolt hardness. I remember reading a post about it a while back where shear strength and hardness were discussed but I don't remember what the outcome was. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Tim

8's are fine.

If you are talking about the bolts that hold the various drive flanges together, I would suggest buying the proper bolts from TRF or Moss. Both the thread length and the grip length are important here, and a stock bolt is unlikely to be correct in both dimensions.

FWIW, I prefer to use what MMC calls "conical top, distorted thread" lock nuts. When I used Nylocs, even with new ones every time, they tended to come loose over time.

Randall is correct. Commercial grade 8(hardware store) bolts are very brittle and can break.

I buy a lot of my hardware from Aircraft Spruce or ARP.
Any grip lengths and size you can imagine.

Thanks all,
I broke down and ordered the bolts from Moss. Scott, I did check out Aircraft Spruce and will be ordering hardware from them in the future. Thanks for your help.
