Driveing lights for Miss Agatha

I been thinking about this off and on for some time but without a front bumper I could not see how to attach them with out drilling holes etc.

The light dawns today.

Custom mounts bolted to the attaching points for the bumper mount holes under the bonnet. Duh, not even a big deal a peice of one inch or so strap bent and twisted with three holes. Sometimes I am a bit slow. Bet I just reinvented the wheel. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

Do you want them mounted to the car frame, or to the bonnet? There should be some holes and captive nuts on the bottom front edge of the bonnet, used for the license plate plinth on cars with no front bumpers. They could be used, if the lights weren't too heavy.

Then again, you could just put on a front bumper. I quite like mine, even though it's off right now to ease access for winter work.

My other two Bugeyes had front bumper but this one did not have one when I got it sooooooo.

Thought I would try a couple of nice Lucas driveing lights up front. Saw a pic like that someplace, will have to keep an eye out.

Hello Jack,

don't be surprised if you see your auxiliarly lights 'dancing' as you drive. It is very difficult to make a single strap rigid enough to support the weight of the lamps.

alec, you are so right. from past experience, driving lights seemed to always vibrate themselves to failure. if i were installing lights again, i would make sure the bracket is as solidly designed as possible. i have seen many cars with one or more lights either broken or missing of which i believe was the result of vibration. sometimes i think the more rigid the bracket is, the more likely the light will fail or break off. you have to find a balance between sturdy and shock-resistant. don't have an answer there.

Jack you re-invented a wheel I found years ago with my first Bugeye, Just be sure to make the brackets are stout (use a set of modified rear bumperette brackets!)and they won't vibrate any more than the rest of the car!

Jack -

Why not try upgrading the bulb assy to halogen ? I also did the alt conversion - but have talked to others who have not with great success. Just use a relay switch.

Hella has a glass 7" set that looks great (ie -- you can't tell it's been swapped out). Email me if you want pic's: gzeck@email.com
