hey its cold here in Holland
but Shaggy is only running on full choke and wont really idol
starting is not at problem the plugs are clean (now) i would rather not mess with the carbs and just wait till warmer weather.
any thoughts??

After the car is running for a couple of minutes, you should be able to NOT have to use the choke, even in single digit (C) temperatures. They're gonna have to be adjusted sooner or later. Depends upon how much you want to drive it NOW.
 
im not going to drive it much but driveing home from a faculty meeting last week the engine was warm and would shut off while i was down shifting so I limped home over reving but I walk to work here so I dont need to drive offten

so a little WD40 and a bit of tinkering?
 
vacuum leak -
won't run unless choke full on - just my 'educated' guess and I'd say "don't ask how I know" except I'm sure you already do...
 
well just tried
if im not pulling the choke all the way out shaggy donstn stay running
i sprayed start gas on the manfold and didnt get a engine rev ( a trick harlod at https://www.moghome.com/) taught me

think i will have to adjust the carbs if im going to do any winter drivieng
 
Check the vacumn line connections at the maniflod and the distributor, especiall if they attach with a rubber hose.

I once thought I had no vaccum leaks as I had gone around with a propane bottle on the carbs with no increase in idle... however I went to change the airfilters & noticed that the entire intake "moved" a little when loosening the air cleaners... turned out that bolts had backed off on the intake itself & the gasket was destroyed - installed a new gasket then check the tightness of the intake manifold bolts a few times a season & it has ran much much better since then. I never had checked for a vaccum leak at the head end of the manifold, only the carb/carb base side.
 
My Carb was like that.
It was so weird that it ran fine as long as the car wasn't moving but then went to heck with momentum. I just happened to put my hand on the carb and it rocked back & forth. Bolted it down, solved that problem. :wink:
 
That's really funny.

Here in S. Cal (and I'm not gloating, really) we've had unseasonably warm weather. High today was about 78F. Good Spridget weather, for sure.

:cryin: right now - 28 deg C / - 18 F. one of the coldest days of the year. And I moved back from Orlando for this :wall: :wall: :wall:

BTW, It's so cold here I had to chase the dog out for 5 minutes this AM just to do her regular duties.

At least it didn't snow last night.

If you decide to go back to Orlando, I know a handyman you can take with you, (pick Me!)

well for those who read my drive from norway will under stand why im shocked its cold down here. but i do miss maimi some days.

I think the probelem was the rubber stopper i had stuffed in the top of the manifold just forward of where the tube gose to the distributer.
