Drain Tube Repair Question

Might someone have a trick for repairing the drain tube under the fresh air vent? Today, I was cleaning up the area around where the tube runs through the shell, and got the plastic/rubber tube off, but I see some rust inside the metal tube, and would like to fix this area if possible.

I was thinking of running some copper pipe inside the original tube, and using some epoxy to seal it under the fresh air vent, and re-attaching the drain tube to the copper piece.

I know it sounds like a lot of work, but I would like to fix this just once.

Yeah, it's not very accessable!

I put a short piece of rubber heater hose and a short length of a bicycle innertube at the bottom (for a "valve") on Hers.
