DR3 2-speed wiper motor wiring

Anyone know the wiring for the optional 2-speed wiper motor for a TR3 ?

It's much different than the later 2-speed motors (like the DR3A), since there are a total of 6 leads coming out of the motor housing, and the park switch just shorts one wire to ground.

Gees, Don has to know that answer. None of Dan's schematics have that wiring on them?

None of Dan's schematics that I've seen include the DR3 wiring. When I asked him about it, the diagram he sent me was for a DR3A, which is different. (Shown below)

Remember, Dan is a TR6 owner, he has relatively little experience with the earlier TRs. And since I have still never found a TR3 with an original 2-speed wiper motor, I'm guessing he has never seen one either. The DR3 I have is from some other car.

Would these be of any help? Looks like the DR3, with wiring similar to the DR1, was used on Jaguar as well as Cobra:

Another possibility:

Cable Colour on DR3 Motor - Cable Colour on the Wiring Loom
Brown - Pink
White - Dark Blue
Red - Grey
Orange - Purple (can be Red on some cars)
Green - Red (New Feed, Live)
Blue - Light Blue

The above is from:

I've got a lead (no pun intended ...) on one more DR3 source. I'll post as soon as I get a chance.

Nice job Tom.It is nice to see some one answering Randall's question instead of the other way around

I found this old post and have a question.
The DR3 motor was the 2 speed wiper option for the sidescreen Triumphs. What does the SWITCH look like for that motor?
The normal Lucas 31434 push-pull switch won't do since there is only one "ON".
And does it fit in the 31434 hole in the facia?

OMG, that post is almost 6 years old.
I was just a baby

The first thing is to see the article I posted on the BCF front-page about the DR3A motors.
This shows how a "weakening winding" is used to get FAST speed.

I have one of these 6-wire DR3 motors, it came out of an E-type.
The are just like the DR3A except that they brought the connections from the armature, field-winding and weakening winding out of the case. Thats why there are six wires. On the DR3A they saved wire by joining them up inside. My diagram show how it was done.

The wires on the one from the E-type were in poor shape and I could not even tell the original colors. So I re-wired it inside and it now works exactly like the two-speed DR3A.

I can post a pic of the wiring if you want it. The only thing to watch is that you don't swap the field winding around so that it rotates in the opposite direction. It will still wipe if you do this. But the armature won't get pushed towards the end-float adjusting screw it will go towards the end cap.

Incidentally you can add a "weakening winding" to ANY single-speed motor so as to get a FAST speed. It does not have to be a winding. You can use a resistor.

Was a 6-wire, now rewired for use on 4A, wire-colors conform to the diagram in the article on the BCF front-page.

This one has a b-metal overheat cutout on the side wall. This just breaks the 12V feed on the green wire.
Yours may not have this. Mostly Trumph ones don't, but this came from a E-type.

Notice which of the two brushes has the red self-parking wire on it. This also has a wire coming out of the case.

The other brush contact has the 12V coming back from the thermal switch

12V also got to go to the main field-winding, the end that is NOT joined to the weakening winding.

The the joint between the weakening winding and main field winding comes out through the case.

You can just see the light colored "weakening winding". Its only about 10 turns.

This is a simple job if you have three hands.
