DPO brilliant ideas...

Since acquiring my TR6 2 months ago, I have ran across many small changes that the DPOs have made. Beside mis-wiring relays and the like, here are my top three:

3. Wiper arms switched...the scuttle lid should always hit the wiper arm...that way you know the wipers are working OK

2. Sheet metal modified to ease rear speaker installation...

1. And my favorite...removing the ground strap from the steering unit:

and placing it on the chassis:

this allows quicker removal of the rack and stops those loud horns from working so well!

Just having a little fun with it all...

I think that the wire from the rack to the chassis belongs there, and is in addition to the wire which connects both sides of the steering joint. Remember that the rack is held by rubber mounts, and the steering joints all have rubber or nylon inserts.
The horn on my Herald didn't work without that grounding strap. It did work without the wire on the steering joint but then it also has a replacement joint which is all metal.

OK, folks... Dumb newbie question:

From context, I have figured out that DPO (or DPO Pedro) refers to hack work. What does the abbreviation "DPO" actually stand for? (If it can be printed at all...)

"*Dreaded* Previous Owner." -- loosely translated. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

EDIT: And welcome to th' fray!

A DPO is a "Dreaded Previous Owner". Pedro is a specific DPO that sold Dale's blushing bride a "perfectly restored" TR6.
Take care Bob

Ahhhh... Thank you!
I had run through all KINDS of possibilities -- and none of them made any sense. Now I can read the posts with perfect understanding.

There is of course another interpretation, that can't be printed.

And yes, we will likely all become someone else's DPO someday. That's exactly why I don't like to sell my Triumphs, so it can't happen until after I'm dead !

Being a DPO is not so bad, unless you paid a lot of good money to someone else who made you look like the DPO.

my 71 TR6 came complete with a 10 speaker stereo system (2 kidney pads, 2 on back deck, 2 in dash vent holes (actually kinda like those, 2 in the rear panel facing the seat backs, and my favorite 2 12 inch woofers in the trunk... as if the car weren't loose enough the thumpin' base would really shake it up!

DPO said he couldn't get it to start...turned out that the alarm system he installed had a starter disable that obviously worked. Disconnected it and it turned over on the first try.
