TR4/4A Door window regulator spring

Question on my 1966 TR4A door window regulator. Should the internal spring sit in the regulator with little to no force against the stop at half open position (as in the picture) or should it be wound up a bit? Also is it facing the correct direction for a left side regulator?
Thanks, Ed

The spring should “lift” the window. It is always partially under tension. Your “looks” ok; does it wind fully?

Left/right… I scratched my head a lot on that. Somewhere there is a picture in BCF. Ultimately, my old winders were more bent than I deemed worth fixing, and I bought new. I made sure to keep track of the “left” and “right” bags!!!

If I wind it up from the halfway point it literally backs off the stop and is completely loose, if I wind it down it tensions the spring a little but that's about it. I can't really see any way of winding up the spring any more and then putting it on the winder shaft so I guess I will go with this. Yes I can wind the mechanism fully up and down. Thanks for the help.

It should be nearly slack at the top,but not fall off do not be afraid to stake the shaft to hold it
in place.
Mad dogs door tip#1 TR4/ Tr6
Have the door 100% complete (less trim card) after painting and seals handles and stuff before setting the
glass. The glass will slide into the door and drop into the channel . Windshield urethane in the channel
will affix it where it should be and lasts forever. Installing the run first is madness!

wind it all the way up to the closed possision, if the spring does not fit tight against the stop, wind it clockwise one roatation.
Otherwise the spring will not be assisting the lift of the window.
then wind it all the way down the spring should not be solid tight.
