Door skin questions

Hi

I have the old door skin off the passenger door and I am cleaning up a door skin I purchased from someone. The skin is new but has been sitting and had some surface rust on it. I took off the black primer stuff and am down to nice clean metal but the surface rust has caused some pitting.

It actually isn't as deep as it looks in the pictures.

I have used POR's Metal Ready on it and tried to get in as best I can, then acetone to clean it up more. What else should I do before Etch priming it so that the rust won't poke through in the future?

One coat epoxy two part primer. Then a heavy fill primer. Block sand and fill as requited, mabe more fill primer.

I'm inclined to sit on me paws here but can't... My 2P worth: Muriatic acid and a soft (natural) bristle 1" paint brush. Until all the oxide is 'burned' away. Wash with water & baking soda solution. Dry completely and apply etching primer. Sand and epoxy prime. A ~good~ fillerover the primer for small pits/scores is "Dolphin Glaze" (affectionately known here as "Porpoise Poop") epoxy filler. block it down to suit, then paint topcoat of choice.

Tis my understanding Doc that the epoxy primer does not need etching primer first.

Muriatic. Works great on rust & fingers. Wear gloves & eye protection.

Jack!!! "Rust never sleeps!"

...like I said: "I'm ~inclined~ to sit on me paws"...

Just call me "anal". I ~HATE~ iron oxide.

I was just about to suggest the same thing doc... Except I was gonna say Phosphoric acid.

Made a bad assumption, assumed the rust would be taken care of first.
