I am looking for door seals for my 70 midget, I have found vinyl, fuflex and britflex. Any preferences on type or supplier.
 
I've only used the rubber bits from Moss, so I can't comment on the others. Mine seal well, but make the door a little too tight when it is closed flush. This makes the latches hard to operate unless some pressure is put on on the doors.
 
Trevor, funny enough one of the things I read was that with the rubber ones, if you use a heat gun to get them HOT then close the doors they form and cool in shape providing a snug but not to tight seal. Did you use clips or glue to install the rubber ones.?
 
They are pressed into place and have never offered to come loose. I did not use the heat gun method, but maybe I should look into it. I assumed that they would take shape and the doors would get easier, but to date it hasn't happened. The car has seen many 95+ degree days in the sun, but the rubber is still pretty much the same shape as the day I put it on.
 
I hear rumor that Moss is now supplying "Bristle-Flex" seals from MacGregor. If so it'd be the stuff to use. Tony Barnhill may be able to shed some light on this, as he's got "connections" with Moss. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
Think that's what I heard as well. And that's the stuff to use.
 
I got my hardtop seals from MacGregor and they're ~fantastic~ compared to what I got from another supposed "knowledgeable" place... The extrusions for the factory HT require a wider seal-to-shell channel than the usual windshield extrusion for TR/mini/etc steel-bodied openings and HE knew what I was talking about. He worked for Pressed Steel north of Abingdon for years. Knows the cars *well* and even has the seals, etc. for the Lotus' trunks and doors! I asked if he was familiar with the "eye-tie" cars and he can get me the Alfa seals too.

On a more serious note, would you recommend them as a good source for door seals etc.,?

Everybody is going aftermarket, but if you are at a salvage yard, old Toyota door seals work.
 
I get mine from JC Whitney. Cheap, and a roll does 2 Spridgets /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Get the universal 11/16 side bulb vinyl push on stuff.
It fits, works, seals, but will not pass concours judging /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
 
OK so basically you say that generic side bubble door seal is ok. So I can pick that up someplace local here in town, or I can go to the scrap yard and get some off a toyota, any model or yr, or can just about any do for now??

The car has no seals on it and will be in the paint shop in about 2 weeks.
 
has anybody used these seals frm JC whitney, will they do? I am in need of seals for a daily driver, I do not need authentic, just something that works.
