Door Panels

As I have a whole bunch of vinyl, paneling and am cheap as can be, I was thinking of replacing the shabby door panels that someone put in my BN1 30+ years ago. Sadly the previous builder didn't make a close copy of the originals (my guess is they were gone daddy gone), so I don't have a lot to go on. Does anyone have a pattern or photos detailing the interior pockets of the old 100 door panels. I have noticed in pictures that there is lining all the way to the top with some screws in a line about 2/3rds the way up the pocket. But other than that I don't really can't tell much about them. Any photos, websites, advice that may enlighten me would be very helpful. As for just buying new panels, I may end up going that route, but doing my own should cost me nothing but time, sweat, blood and maybe some ground teeth.

BN1L, I was able to purchase bare wooden panels from Moss
with all the holes pre cut for something like $20 or so.
( this is for a Bn7) Maybe they have them for a BN1 . That would be a good start. Bob G

Now if you're really cheap, like me, you can purchase a 4X8 sheet of "door wood" from any local wood supplier (call around you'll find one) the wood is used to replace inside door wood. It's the same as Moss uses, all you then need is a good fine bladed saw and of course a pattern. Doors wouldn't be to hard as you have the door on the car, just use a thick type of construction paper and make a pattern, transfer to wood, cutout then cover with vinyl. Use the picture's you have for screw replacements etc.
Good luck

Dear BN1L,

you are not the only cheap person in the world, I, am too! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif

I am just in the process of starting the same job that you want to do on my car. In fact just today I collected all (what the mice left over) of 100 door trom from my attic.

What I can offer you, are measurements of the material which forms the door pocket, that means everything INSIDE the door.

I am also looking for the measurements for the outer trim panel.

If you need something from the above, just let me know.

Tom

I can get you the measurements and photos of my outer panels, they aren't exact as the section near the latch and door handle (or rod, mine never works) don't really look to spec.

If you can post, either here, or in a private message the inner panels we should both be pretty close to golden.

I have some mildew resistant 1/4" luan left over from a stage set that I am going to try to use, it may be too thick, but I think it should be strong enough for the thin sections by the latch/handle mechanism. Maybe a little fiberglass would help that.

Perfect!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bow.gif

I will do the measurements during the weekend and post it to you.

Tom

Here comes the files.. (Hope it works)

Best regards

Tom
