Door Lock Removal??

Hi All,

Does anyone out there know how to remove the door locks? (the key hole) It looks like it should be simple, but I would like to avoid destroying them if I can. I tried doing a search here, but I guess my patience is wearing thin (it is 4:45 AM and I have been up all night) I Think it is safe to say, I am HOOKED on BCF!! :yesnod:

The OE style retainers slide off IIRC. It takes a bit of fidgeting to keep them from rotating. I think I made a tool for that... lord only knows where it is now.

There are two spring tabs that need to be pushed in, one in the front and one in the back. You need to have the inside latch and door panel off to access them. I just use a regular screw driver to push one in and then the other. Be careful to not chip the paint on the outside of the door.

As I recall, there are two pieces of spring steel on the two flat sides of the tumbler. these need to be compressed in order for the lock to slide out. The tumbler itself is sort of "L" shaped in that it has the tumbler and the piece that actually controls the lock. you will need to lever the tumbler out a little - it will seem like it won't fit but it will work.

Go to bed

Doh! Chris and JP have it correct. I may be thinking of an aftermarket version.

Your correct about the aftermarket version, which is basically a large flatwasher with a chunk cut out of one side, with 2 allen head screws that are turned in to hold the lock mechanism in place...

Thanks All! I got it off just after I read Chris and JP's response. You guys are the greatest!
