Rest in Peace Raiders, you have served your country well.

Tom M.

I saw this on facebook yesterday. His death has brought an end to an era.

I remember watching (I think on the Military Channel) a documentary about the raid featuring interviews with the (then surviving) raiders. I was struck at how normal they appeared. Nobody seeing them on the street would believe they were the ones who were on the raid.

Were rapidly coming to an absolute end to an era. The older I get the more I appreciate what our parents (or grandparents) did.

Me too!

Seems that the idea of "working together toward a mutual goal of a better world" is being replaced with "grab as much as you can for yourself".

A generation putting their lives on hold "for the duration." Open-ended contract, no end in sight. Humbling. Even more so the Doolittle Raiders. They planned for a return that looked nearly impossible, expecting it in reality to be a one-way mission.

That is why they have become known as "The Greatest Generation."
