Don't tell me I have to pull the *&%!#engine again

Just got the rebuilt engine in with a new clutch and throw out bearing and everything is just fine thank you when I notice that if I have the clutch engaged for more than a minute I get a high pitched squeak sound that goes away if I let up on the clutch.
If I have to pull the engine again, I'll be really PO'd.

sound like the throw out bearing....
u didnt happen to use that piece of
crap carbon one ,did u?
the roller bearing on ebay is much
better in my opinion .....z

Should never set with the engine on and the clutch in gear. Likewise should not start the car in gear, neutral always.

Try useing neutral when you need to set awile with the engine on.

Which engine tranny are we talking about here?

good point trevor, and ya,
u shouldnt hold ur clutch
in unless absolutely necessary..
if its a 1275, the throw out carbon
is probably loose from its holder..

pulling the motor is easier the 2nd time.....z

Are you sure the clutch is disingaging completly?

Check it before you think about pulling the eng.
check the clutch system before you go pulling the eng.

Yes on all counts my friends.
I did use the crappy carbon throw out bearing and it's a 1275 engine and ribcase tranny, all rebuilt I should add, the engine twice (don't ask).
The noise seems to vary a bit as I lift off the clutch and it does seem to be disengaging ok with no problem with shifts or putting it in first gear. The waythe noise varies suggests that its a function of the pressure of the bearing on the clutch which again suggests that its the *%^#! throw out bearing.
I've been hoping that its caused by it being new and would go away but it hasn't in first 50 miles at least. I may try to give it a look. Doesn't the tranny have a "view hole" that allows you to see the clutch?

Well yes it does but I would not seriously expect to see anything worthwhile.

Drive it till it really breaks, you'll know, or you need to pull the engine for something else.

If it really breaks. Start the car in the gear you wish to be in and drive home with out problems, no starting out with the clutch but you can shift by matching the engine speed with the wheel speed. Way back when I taught my daughter to do this and she caught on right away, it's not hard.

Yep, I drove my C from up around Yellowknife all the way to
Seattle with a busted clutch slave.
I mean, as in when a rock propelled at high speed hits the side of it & splits it wide open.
Timed the gears all the way.
Started it in 1st or 2nd and then drove away.
Only scary bit was going through Vancouver BC the day Charles & Di were there.
Those (or youze) Canadians (or Canucks) really turn out for that stuff!!

Re: Don't tell me I have to pull the *&%!#engine a

mine did the same thing....
it will go out eventually and
stop working.......
if this happens u may need to
turn off the car to stop, if it sticks
in gear also.....
the roller bearing is $46 on ebay.......z

Re: Don't tell me I have to pull the *&%!#engine a

If you just wait a while the oil leaking from the rear main will lube the bearing WAY more than you would ever want and the noise will stop!! (Is that optimistic or what??)

I love that attitude and drive it til it breaks I will, boys.

I have also done the no clutch driving thing too so I'm all set, I guess, for a summer of fun.

Maybe it is the pilot bushing squeaking?
