Don't Make Waves!

It's all indirect measurement (distortion of space-time). I want to see gravitons (to go with the waves)!

I think he was an alien!
Naw Basil he was an Immigrant too.

He won the Nobel Prize for physics for his explanation of the photoelectric effect and immigrated to the U.S.-:highly_amused:

Einstein might be right about time travel. The next scheduled event is last Wednesday.

That video was helpful. I guess there wouldn't necessarily be a specific frequency; those ripples would depend upon the disturbance that sent them... I think.

Two singularities colliding durn'd well oughtsta leave a mark! No surprise it's still somewhat evident.

The surprise (to me, anyway) is it took this long to find it. Penzias & Wilson caught the background radiation long ago. But I guess the source of that was a MUCH bigger event. :smirk:

Agreed. At any point in space I would expect the "waves" to be complex and based on interference patterns created from all the "disturbance events" happening in the universe. Like interference patterns in any wave phenomenon.

Just wondering - what do you think this discovery will bring about, beyond physics? longer-distance observation, communication, power generation, space travel, etc.

Nothing will happen. They'll be too busy working on self-driving cars, improved Viagra, toothpaste tube caps and other more important stuff...

I look forward with great anticipation to a better toothpaste tube cap!

As always, use caution:

this discovery fills me with renewed optimism that Dagwood may one day step off the printed page.
