So, they need to tear down the old US99 Viaduct along the waterfront in Seattle. 60 years old, falling apart, damaged in the Nisqually Quake a few years back....and McGinn runs on tear it down, surface option (reason it went UP was railroad, active piers, tracks to piers, none of which exists today) and that he would support whatever was decided.
He has fought the Council (good thing, actually), but keeps supporting the "no" groups, decision has been made at state level, and they've got ANOTHER ballot measure in two weeks that won't mean anything....and they're going to tunnel, in fill, so he says "Nope, can't do that until the rotting Sea Wall is replaced" and on, and on, and on.
Seattle....so they build this stupid light rail....run it on the streets though the most difficult section of town, and then what do they do? Ban all parking near said light rail stations.
Oh, and public pressure caused them to complete light rail to airport, instead of over one mile short......and it's 1/4 mile from the terminal.....you haul your bags and screaming kids 1/4 mile, then through a parking garage to get to the terminal.....
They put this bus tunnel under Seattle several years ago. Some wag said "gee, let's put rails in first, so we can just connect up when Light Rail comes!" Except they didn't wire them or insulate them for power....and the platform heights were wrong...so when light rail DID come, they had to rip it all out to do it again....at taxpayer expense.
Now they're going to rebuild one of the floating bridges. So, they're going to start tolling it, what, 5 or 6 years BEFORE they start working on it....and not Not My Governor wants to toll I-90, I-5, I-405 so folks cannot take alternate routes.
Montana is looking better all the time.
