doing math sucks or my progress so far

My triumph has been a little more work than I had planned. It developed the "clunk" when you released the clutch. This is kind of common.

So I tried to drop the differential and it wouldn't drop far enough, since it was hanging on the exhaust. Next I had to cut off the exhaust since it had the dual exhaust that runs through the frame under the differential. Still wouldn't drop far enough, so I had to remove the drive axles. Only to discover one of the hubs was messed up. Off they went to get rebuilt I figured since the rear end was off, I would replace all of the rubber bushings and rebuild the rear brakes only to find the trailing arm was cracked. Then I figured since I had the differential off I would replace the oil seals. Then I discovered the brake master cylinder was leaking, so that got rebuilt and the brake servo or booster needed to be rebuild. Now I just have to put it back together just in time to leave it in the garage when I go to Australia for work. Oh yeah, I also replaced the ujoints, and the clutch master cylinder needed to be rebuild.

Long story short,
Original problem was a $15 bushing.

Total cost (not including rust proofing paint)
$1122 (not including shipping charges)

So all said and done, about $1500 and close to 100 hours to replace a $15 part. But I have learned a lot and have had a lot of fun. The only part that I wish was different is that this was all under carriage stuff, so no one will know that it was done. The good part, I will never have to deal with these parts again.

Would I do it again? Absolutely, with out a doubt.

And let me thank everyone on the board for all of the help you have given me so far. Bentley's book only gets you so far. Hopefully I will be able to help other people out as I learn things.

Jack, good on ya!

But did you miss a number in your cost?
I'm sure you meant to post $15,000. as
your total final cost for an initial $15.00 part.

Dale,

Jack did his stateside, so it was about $1,500. If he had done it in Puerto Rico, it would have been $15,000.

That still doesn't look like your wife in your avatar

I gave up on the avatar game. I can't figure it out. Mine shows it OK. And Basil's shows it OK.

He may be right in that some are seeing the incorrect ones from yesterday because the cache needs to be completely cleared and the browser restarted.

Jack,

I don't want to burst your bubble, but have you ever considered how three major suppliers TRF, Moss & VB (plus Rimmer, others and eBay) stay in business serving a core group of customers who have a declining base of cars to draw from?

As I said in many other posts, it never ends, never, ever, ever...

Oh, one last tip to help preserve ones sanity.

Never, ever, ever add anything up again. As time goes on you'll appreciate that advice.

Jack,
It's much easier with the body off! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif

Of course then you need to buy a second car so you have one to drive while you're working on the 1st one!

Paul,

I see a nice yellow LBC as your avatar. Although for a while today it was totally different.

I been trying to tell my wife that for years!!!

Thanks, Darwin. I think that it's fixed now. At least until I get a new pic with the top down and start this all over again.
