There's an episode of Love, Death and Robots where a deserted earth is a tourist attraction for aliens. They're wondering where humans went and soon find themselves surrounded by cats. A talking cat says that once they got opposable thumbs they had no further use for them and got rid of them. Thumbs for what?? Why to open the cans themselves of course....

My dear departed mother had a different take on humans' extinction and the visiting aliens' speculation as to the cause. Seeing the dearth and depth of discarded cigarette butts littering the ground about anywhere she went, her conjecture was that the aliens would conclude humans had been killed off by a creature which would consume them then leave behind small cellulose tufts as their feces... which in turn cause the visitors to abandon further exploration for fear of meeting the same end.

...she had a vivid imagination.

HOW AM I JUST LEARNING ABOUT THIS SHOW NOW?!? Netflix has let me down, this should have been my #1 recommendation -- not that Adam Sandler / Drew Barrymore nonsense.

This reminds me of a thread on tumblr a while back which suggested an alien invasion where humans could not defeat the aliens, but the animals could. Wasps, kangaroos, skunks, and cougars were decimating the aliens and sending them away cowering... and the captured humans who were forced to act as their guides were of course steering them right into the danger.

I stumbled across it by accident myself. It's one of this where episodes are as short as 10 minutes up to about 20. Different styles and completely unrelated subjects, all animated in different styles. From what would be a PG rating to R. I found I liked some and others not so much, but it is interesting and something that without streaming type services probably wouldn't have seen the light of day, just too unusual.

Was your Mother referring to Virginia? I walked about half a block down the road
that borders our property (& back).Picked up over 40 cigarette butts.Since there's no sidewalks,
these were all thrown out of passing vehicles.

Western PA steel town.
