As I'm working myself into a frenzy in my shop( please excuse the mess) I looked over in front of my swamp cooler and this is waht I saw...he HATES the heat, stays in the shade on the odd occasions he ventures outside...is usually on his back with his butt pointed at the cooler...sound asleep. Who is leading the dogs life???

Proves that he's no dummy and smarter than most of us. Does he have a degree in thermal engineering?

That's one smart bud!
 
Our dog does that when it's really hot and sunny outside. We'll go to the park and he'll specifically want to walk through the grass, rather than on the paths, because it's shadier. Every once in a while he'll sit down, and if you ask him what he's doing, he'll sloooooowly lay on his stomach, then slooooowly stretch all the way out, and look up at you wagging his tail. Then he'll roll over a couple of times and be ready to go.

I can't tell if he does this cause he's hot, or if he just wants to roll around in the grass. We don't have a back yard (it's all garden, no lawn), and he's not allowed in the front by himself.
 
Our dogs are experts at finding the shade in any given area. They can spot a square foot of shade fifty feet away, and immediately go to it to lay down. Born opportunists!
