Does anyone use gasket sealer on the oil pan?

Hello all!

Repair manual says to "smear grease" on the flanges before inserting the cork gasket. I'm tempted to use a non-hardening permatex product (non silicone, more like Hylamar)but thought I'd check first.

I do. Just a thin smear of silicone; I hate it when I see peole have used "... a quarter inch bead..." only to have it all gush out and cure on the inside/outside of the flanges.

Hylomar is good, but not really required for this application.

I think the idea here is to prevent the gasket from "sticking" to the block. You may want to remove the pan with gasket intact on down the road.
