I have Wine installed in Lunux 17.3 Rosa and have tried to install a Windows game from a CD but keep getting an error message, what am I doing wrong? Not a big deal, but it has me stumped, any clues? PJ

Paul - how 'bout sharing the error message!

Hmmm, not very informative is it?

Hmmm, not very informative is it?

That's the problem, it tells that an error occurred, but not what it is or any other information.

Not too sure I can help, Paul. A 'WAG' is that the program files are on a CD and are therefore "read only." You might try copying the CD files to a new directory in your home directory, changing file permissions and installing from there.

I gave up trying to get Wine to work with Windows programs. I just drink it now.

Well done, Greg. My conclusion is about th' same.

Well, I finally gave up on it also. I finally found a program that is a royal PITA to get to work properly. That doesn't change my feelings on Linux though, I still like it better than Windows, by far. Thanks for all the input, much appreciated. PJ

Paul - if the error says there's a problem opening the archive, wouldn't that mean the file(s) on the CD may be corrupt? Like a bad copy or something? Will the game install ok on your Windows machine?

It sounds like Wine is operating ok, but it can't open the archive on the CD.

The disc works on the Windows machine and will open on the Linux machine, it's the install program won't recognize it. I tried Archive manager, but no go. I have pretty much gave up on Wine. I thought of copying the files, as Doc said, to a blank folder and see if anything changes. I'll try that later. Anyway, Christmas decorations are up, it's cold outside and the garage is heated, so I guess I'll tinker with the car today and forget the computer, more fun! :encouragement: PJ

Wine, well I guess this is the only solution.
