Do you run the intake manifold heater on your car?

Hello, I'm back after fun summer of driving my TR6 /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
I had to remove the tube from the back of the water pump, that I believe is the return pipe for the car heater and the intake manifold heater, to fix a leak. My question is if I am not going to do any cold weather driving do I need to hook up the manifold heater? On one of my other cars they sell a kit to disconnect it in the name of increased performance. If I didn't hook up the manifold heater it looks to me like I would just run a pipe from the car heater return to the back of the water pump, and plug off the outlet on the thermostat housing that is feeding the manifold heater. What do you think. Thanks Bob
 
The intake heat helps with cold weather driving by helping the fuel to atomize inside the intake manifold. Warm air helps break up the fuel droplets...

Driveability during cold engine operation will be evident but if you don't mind a little stumble or maybe a little flatspot on acceleration until your engine reaches running temp, I wouldn't worry about it.
 
my tr7 won't run properly without the intake manifold preheating. even in warmer weather, even when i ran the weber down drafts, zs 175's or with the hs6's i run with now.
 
Thanks for the input.......... If I need it I will spring for a new tube. The one on the car is pretty rusty, and was seized in the connector. I had to destroy it to get it out. It seems like in any photos I look at the heater is always hooked up.
