TR6 Do the TR3-6 front spring pans interchange?

One of the spring pans on my '71 TR6 is bent. I purchased one on ebay, but it did not have a very good photo. The center hole is slightly smaller in diameter, but every other dimension looks pretty close. It looks as it they used a punch press blank, with a larger hole. The forming die mis-shaped the lip around the hole because there is less material.

If memory serves, the bolt pattern for the lower shock mount is different between the two.

There is a difference. The studs for the shock mount are closer together by about 1/4". There is still plenty of room for the shock, but the metal spacer is to long to fit between the brackets. I can grind off the spacer until it is nearly flush with the rubber bushing on the shock and it will fit. I think I will use it. Unless there is something I'm not seeing.

The TR3 has a different trunnion setup than the TR6. I notice that the cutout area in your pictures shows a slight variation in the space allowed for that trunnion. Question is will you have enough room for the pan to move up and down without hitting the trunnion?

I am surprised that this question had not been asked before. I have the car re-assembled. The pan works fine after I shortened the bushing spacer on the shock. There is no interference with the trunion. The shock was more difficult to install because there is less clearance around the bottom mounting points. In theory it should not be, but it was. So if you had to use an early pan you can, but I wish I had more time to get a correct one. I started the suspension rebuilt at the rear in November and it has been one complication after another, but now it is all complete and the car drives like new.
