I'm having problems with Photobucket going to a blank screen after 2 seconds. It was suggested to change the dns server, than clear your cache?? What is a DNS server? Photobuckets program has been doing stupid things for a long time now, especially after they "IMPROVED" it?? Everyone is complaining. Don't you just love it when they improve their perfectly good program and then it just falls short of junk! SO, what is DNS and is it benificial to change it? PJ

I'm not going to touch the Photobucket problem, but DNS = Domain Name Server. DNS is the "big computer in the sky" that routes your webpage activity across the internet. Matches the website url you type to the actual ID number of the website's server computer.

Edit: for example, if you tell your browser to go to www.uconn.edu (Univ. of Connecticut), the DNS server looks up www.uconn.edu and finds that uconn's web server is identified with 137.99.25.178. DNS then sends your web request to the *number* of the server (as the server doesn't really have an internet "name").

You can change your DNS in Win7 by going to Control Panel, Network Connections, Local Area Connection, Properties, Networking, Internet Protocol version 4, Properties. I use 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1 as my DNS.

But of course ... your ISP may be routing you through its own DNS server - so you may not be able to change it!

Good luck.
Tom

Sorry to report (because I know you've found it to be a frustration), but Photobucket works great for me....and when they changed it was an improvement.

You might also try using Google Public DNS
