Dizzy problem

Country flag
Offline
Got my dizzy back but the Lucas cap was smashed (thanks US mail)and the wires cut too short. New spark plug caps were applied to my wires but No 1 is 1/2 inch short and No 2 a tight fit. These caps cannot be removed once on, so now I wait again for new wires and caps plus a replacement dizzy cap to came. There goes my Summer of driving. I'm so anxious to try the new advance curve and better conduction to the plugs.
The caps that screw into the wire don't make good contact.
Now to the point. I've had the wires on and of so much I need to recall the firing order. It should be (counter-clockwise):
2-4-1-5-3-6 Correct?
TH

Hi Rich,
That order is correct but usually expressed starting with #1. 1, 5, 3, 6, 2, 4.

When #1 is firing, the rotor should be about 2 o'clock as you look down on it. Maybe you have the dizzy rotated too far (a tooth off the drive dog-to-cam gear). That might explain the plug wires not reaching, other than the fact that they may be too short.

NOPE :D--Firing order is: 1 5 3 6 2 4

Better head over to E-Bay and look for a Lucas Nos Cap.
Order 5 Bosh 1000 ohm straight connectors #0356100014
Order a set of solid stranded ignition wire for an Eight cylinder car.
Cut and fit wiring to be compatible with you car.

Note: Good ignition wire kits will have plug connectors you can just use OK-- Yeah it's me-Keoke

TH,

According to my Parts List(AKD 1151), the lenght of the HT leads are:
Cable no.1 13.5"
Cable no.2 12"
Cable no.3 9"
Cable no.4 11"
Cable no.5 11.5"
Cable no.6 16"
Maybe you could change some leads in the dizzy cap to make it all fit FWIW.

Thanks,Johnea. I did that last night. Changing 1 and 5 allowed me to have enough room and I was able to start the car easily. According to those measurements, that should not have worded because my cable #1 was shorter than #5. You never know with these cars and I've had it for 7-8 years and even changed the cap and cables(matching it to the old wire arrangement). Needs to be re timed.
We may make it to the ice cream social after all.(an annual U.S. Healey gathering at ice cream stores where we introduce the public to the Healey world so future generations can get interested in our old cars. Do you have something like that in the Netherlands?)
