Just took delivery of the new auto advance unit for my DM6A distributer, hopefully this will complete the refurbishment. Everything is running a lot smoother now and I have been learning as I go along following the new earth, LT wire and Star spring replacement. I have since discovered that there was a lot of movement due to wear in the linkage from the auto advance unit to the points plate, so much so that the points could move around a 1/4 inch, clearly undesirable, the new unit is rock solid and I am hoping that there is very little wear in the hole in the points plate, but that will be easy to over drill and fit a sleeve should it be necessary. I will let you know how I get on.
Well it is all installed, there was no wear in the points plate hole and on examination of the old unit, the rivet at the 'hinge' end had a chunk gouged out after 51 years of use, creating the slack. The new unit was tight as a drum and strangely enough, after a short outing, there is no noticeable difference.
