While trying to measure interference between the distributor adapter and mating face on cylinder block, I came up with an interference of 3mm (.1182"). That number seems really high. Have I measured something incorrectly?

I'm not sure of the thickness of the packing that I will be using to achieve the correct end float. I read in the owners manual that the thickness is .002". That would mean I need 52 packing pieces???? help
 
I've never measured anything here. I just drop the distributor gear drive in and make sure that the cross pin across the top end of the shaft (it acts like a "key" and which is ever so slightly off center), is on the side towards the coil with the long axis of this pin aiming somewhat towards the #1 spark plug hole. This is with the engine at top dead center for cylinder #1. You check this by carefully putting a small diameter screwdriver into the hole for #1 piston and turn the crank or pull on the fan to check when the #1 piston is at the top.

Then you drop the distributor down into place, rotate the rotor till it engages the key pin mentioned above and tighten it all down. The rotor should be aiming to #1 plug.

The advance tube for the distributor should be aiming straight forward. That's all.
