I have distributor from my old 1098 engine will it work on 1275? Could someone tell me the years that they changed the distributors also? Finally, will the distributor need to be recurved. Thanks
Regards,
Adam

1098 distributors work fine in 1275s.
All A series engines used 3 types of distributors.
DM2, early 948s and i think some 1098s.
23D was the all centrifical advance dizzy taken from the Mini Cooper S. And the 25D on all 68 and later Spridgets.
All the advance curves are within 6* for the most part. So you may have to advance or retard your timing just a bit.
For a simple answer, they all work in all engines.

Hello Adam,
there is also a 45D4 fitted to 1275 engines but I don't know when the changeover occurred.
It is possible to modify Lucas distributor total advance if you want. Inside the distributor there is a plate which is stamped with the distributor advance (equal to half the real engine advance).
Measure the gap between the plate and the stop then divide by the number stamped on it. That gives a dimension per degree. File the plate as required to increase the advance. To decrease you need to make a collar to restrict the movement.
The curve is adjusted by changing the two springs, which is harder to do accurately at home.
