Discovery alarm issue...

I'm (usually)able to lock the doors on my 98 Discovery with the key, but if I try to use the fob, it locks and unlocks again immediately. As I understand it, the key locks the vehicle perimetrically, but the fob also locks it volumetrically, so I assume some component in that system is bad. Anyone know what this is about?

Could be as little as a grounding issue or battery. Most have to use dealer textbook to check. Not an easy fix.

I've got the 7 pound book, and it sucks. It tells you how to replace anything, but not much good at troubleshooting. Well, to be fair, I haven't read all 11 million pages yet, so maybe I just haven't found it...
I did figure out how to lock it with the key and not arm the alarm. That'll be fine for now, and i'm moving from a rural state to a more rural state, so maybe I'll just leave well enough alone...
Even so, it is an amazing vehicle, and I am fortunate to have it!

The textbook I mentioned is not a work manual, but the dealer computer diagnostics that has to be plugged into the system. If you can find a nearby independent Rover shop is a plus. Last price I found for the system was $5K for a laptop version. Or you can download the RAVE CD from GreenOval.com and get the CD version and a more comlete manual. The Dealer CD has more than what the manula covers. PM following.
