Disc brakes from RWA Midget for Bugeye?

I'm not really considering this, but there is a chap locally who has a RWA project for sale right now. Body is good at first glance, but what I'm really interested in is the engine/transmission and maybe the front brakes. Engine runs. I'm considering it, if the price was right. Do the front discs from this era car work on a Bugeye? Would I have to convert to the dual circuit system?

This is not really on my list of things to do, but if I wound up with this car, I'd want to be able to save the brakes for possible future use. That might tip me over towards getting this car.

Re: Disc brakes for Bugeye

Tis my understanding that disc brakes require the later master cyl as well.

Re: Disc brakes for Bugeye

Not true Jack. While the old dual master is of a smaller diameter it will work just fine. What you have to be carefull of is letting the fluid level get to low while bleeding etc so that you dont let air into the system. Like Drew I dont want to cut my car up as would be required for the later master and pedal box.

My card brakes work just fine with the original bugeye master.

To answer Drews question the brakes are a direct replacement but I would suggest inspecting the A arms on both your car and the donor to see if the fulcrum pins will need rebuilding (most likely will).

Card brakes???

I had thought that the discs would work with the old master, just needed to grab the whole assembly, not just the brakes themselves.

So then, what is needed is the front spindles and brakes and disks? Everything else is fine?

Re: Disc brakes for Bugeye

You do have to watch the tierod end size. If the donor is newer than 72, you will likely need to use your old steering arms.

I consider him a good friend. I have bought a few of his cars, and we've done some projects. He does have some cool BEs. You should come up for the annual post-Thanksgiving SOS (Save Our Sprites) weekend. Cars show up, some get fixed, and some go home in body bags. Great fun. A true Team Thicko event. Peter

Re: Disc brakes for Bugeye

Just thought you might when I found out where he lives.

He has a garage full of cars to kill for.

Wow is that a long way Peter. Must go to Detroit for Christmas, sister is getting married. That's enough for this year but I am sure you guys will have a great time.

Re: Disc brakes for Bugeye

Haven't got that car yet. Still trying to decide if the price is worth the parts. Then I have to decide if I want to deal with the shell once I've picked it clean.

He's had it for sale for a while, so I'm not feeling all that rushed. If someone else grabs it, so be it.
