Disappointed in rebuild kit for the HS6s

I was rebuilding my carburetors yesterday and seem to be missing some parts. I had bought the SU rebuild kit but it does not contain the needles, or the rubber grommets for the bowl attachment. I see that MOSS sells two types of kits. Are these included in the higher priced kit?
These carburetors are very worn. Almost makes me want to rebuild my 40 DCOE webers and put them on the TR3A. But I don't have any manifolds for the webers.

All the linkage is very rusty. Do you usually paint them (color?) or spray on some clear?

Jerry

None of the kits come with needles, as there are so many different ones that could apply to to whatever kit you got, so to cover more applications, the kits come without needles. I just looked on the Moss site, their standard rebuild kit shows that they come with the float to carb grommets, but nothing is mentioned for the master kit. I bought the full master kit when I did my carbs, and it came with those grommets.

BTW, manifolds for the DCOEs are still available from Pierce Manifolds...

I saw the manifold, but it would seem that webers would be wasted on a street car. But I just love the look !

or the rubber grommets for the bowl attachment.
What rubber grommets? On the HS6 (at least the ones I have), the bowl is connected to the carb body with a bolt and a metal insert that controls the angle of the bowl to the body. Only the earlier H6 carbs used rubber grommets (and they were a major weak point of the design IMO).

The Moss web site has a note attached to P/N 375-148 "Master rebuild kit" stating that metering needles are not included. However it does appear that TW needles are included in the other kit 375-148.

Randall, might Jerry be thinking of the rubber washer Moss p/n 378-070. I also had trobble sorting this out

Ah, yeah, that would make sense. I don't recall mine having a rubber washer there; but the catalogs certainly say rubber. It is also not shown as being included in the rebuild kit(s).

From the photo on the Burlen web site, it was apparently changed to plastic at some point.

You are right Randall, it is now plastic and that is likely what Moss will send out - got mine four weeks ago from our local guy, who I think uses Moss. There weren't any (rubber or otherwise) on my HS6's when we rebuilt them, so was equally somewhat confused.....

It's obvious that I missed the "S" in HS6...sorry about that. I promise to pay more attention in the future...

Another question. The gasket for the fuel bowl is too small. I noted this on the HD6s that I rebuilt two years ago. I ended up cutting gasket material to fit when the one in the kit tore. This time I soaked it in oil overnight (like you do the cork gaskets) to see if it would soften up. No chance, still ripped. Any other suggestions?
I decided that these carbs had someone doing some strange repairs to them. And there was scoring marks down the throat of the carb from something. I only hope they work as they took at least 3 hours to clean them.

Never soak cork seals in oil for this use!!!Assemble them with silicone grease/teflon so they wont wear out
before their time. Also when you assemble the jet,set the piston /needle assembly on the body to align the jet as it
is fitted to the housing.
