Here we go again. Everything was running great, so I checked the water level after work tonight. Here's a hint: steam on the windshield inside, water level down and the carpets are not drying out. Tomorrow the heater core comes out. I am not going to take a chance and run the car to work tomorrow. I'll have to drive the PU. Was 70+f here and clear. I'll have to wait to drive the GT again.

18" piece of half-inch hose, loop it from heater control to return tube and DRIVE ON!!!

Doc beat me to it...
Pull the heater out, loop the circuit and drive on while waiting for the new core.
 
Unless you have a Bugeye then you just open the bonnet and turn the valve off. Hehe.
 
Well went out and finaloly got the heater core out of the car. A little surprise in finding I had to take the whole unit out not just the front place. The core has a lot of rubbed and bent fins. The outlet and inlets look like the have been leaking. The inside of the housing is full of rust and wetness. The air flapper valve (?) was rusted. Thanks to PB Blaster I freed up the flap. It works now, but the cable needs to be replaced maybe. Next off to the radiator shop and then sandblasting the housing. I'll paint and then reinstall.

But then the heater box looks so good that the rest of the engine bay needs sprucing up, and the engine could use a puff of paint. Well It's not all that hard to pull the motor to do a nice job, and while the motors out we should put some fresh bearings in it, and it'd be a good time to rebuild the front suspension........ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
...don't fergit the clutch...
 
...and you'll have to decide whether to use a carbon-faced or roller throwout bearing...
 
...and cylinders on both ends of the clutch hydraulics... the brake master has to come out with that, so a rebuild there couldn't hurt...
 
and since you have the engine out ya might as well drop the front end and rebuild the suspension; replace all the bushes with fresh rubber/urathane, negative camber wish bones, rebuild the shocks, and install a Willwood brake kit. Oh, and that'd also be a good time to rebuild that steering rack and have a custom cog made for a much quicker ratio... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
 
Once you get the engine compartment all cleaned up, then the rest of the car will need done too to balance everything out. Heck, might as well strip her down now, instead of pulling stuff twice. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
 
Might as well rebuild transmission and rearend along with the rest of the suspension.
 
Heck this is how I started on the restoration of my Bug Eye, Clutch Went - Taking Engine Out - Rebuild Transmission - Strip Engine Compartment - Paint Engine Compartment - Install all Components after Refinishing them - Modify Engine for Some More Fun - Upgrade Front End -
And now I find myself waiting for the machine work to be completed on the engine, lying on my back at night after work upgrading the rear suspension.

WOW, you guys really understand!!! I love being here. Teh core went to the radiator shop today. While all the rest is going on I might as well fix the sunroof too!! Unfortunately my wife doesn't see the need. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif
