Dipstick Leaking

I have some oil spewing out of my dipstick, and I can't seem to get it to stop. I made sure the "spring" on the stick that holds it in is tight, and it is. Is there something more than a felt seal?

This leads me to believe that perhaps my crankcase is under too much pressure. Should I be checking the PCV valve? The oil caps on the 4A are NOT vented, correct?

I also have a leak that appears to be at the bottom of the fuel pump, I just installed a new gasket. Any ideas on that?? All help is much appreciated!!!

Thank you!

Yup, too much pressure. Could be PCV not working, or too much blowby past the rings. Most likely the problem at the fuel pump as well.

PCV valve was super clogged. Took it off and couldn't even blow thru it!!!

Just took it apart and thoroughly cleaned it. I don't think it's the rings, compression is good on all 4, within about 5%.

We'll see...thank you!

You are leaking out the rear main seal too. It has to have a little bit of a vacuum in the crankcase in order to work. Are you using the stock PCV? I put a catch-can on mine where the PCV should be. So far, it has helped.

You might try using a vacuum guage on the engine side of the PVC to see if you are pulling any vacuum on the crankcase.

One time I had a ring break and poke up through a piston. The engine ran strong, but I had all kinds of blowby. It leaked out of every gasket!

Problem solved!!!

After thoroughly cleaning the PCV valve, and making sure it's securely connected, the problem is fixed.

I can feel a slight vacuum if I hold my finger over the dipstick hole.

I tell you, this car is an absolute pleasure to deal with. I have a late model MGB that has been an absolute pain in the ass. Not necessarily reflective of the car, just a really bad previous owner who beat the [censored] out of his little MG.

This car, though, wow, it is truly amazing!!!
