TR2/3/3A Dimmer Switch

Finally after 30 years of driving the car I made a bracket and mounted the dimmer switch. Why is there a position that the headlights go out? I'm going to say it's every 3rd click.

Bad switch.

How many wires do you have?
I think there should only be 6 wires total, one for the supply from the main switch and one for each filament that runs off the dimmer switch. Ie two low beams, two high beams and one high beam dash indicator. I don't know why they chose to run separate wires for right and left; maybe so a single bad bullet connector couldn't put out both headlights.

As I recall, I did open mine and clean it once upon a time. It now has a screw in place of the rivet that was in the center of the button - but has worked fine like that for decades.

What is weird and made think there was possibly a 3rd position for driving/fog lights was it consistently every third click they would go out. However there is no extra wiring in the harness to hook up anything lie that. The switch was kept in a good environment for 40 years so surprised it would be bad. I'll try pushing on it several times to see if it cleans it's self out otherwise I'll have to drill out the rivets and do what GEO did.
