Dim Headlight

Hi. This my first of I'm sure many posts to this site! I bought a 79' Midget over the weekend and the drivers side headlight is dim when on. With the headlights are on the LEFT turn signal blinks slowly, and if I am applying the brakes it just about stops entirely!
Does anyone have an idea of where to begin with this problem? I was hoping that it might be as simple as replacing some component such as the turn signal switch or the flasher relay... I am not real knowledgeable with electrical stuff so any help would be MUCH appreciated.
Thanks all!!

Hi, First thing to do is clean all electrical connections, apply film on vaseline and reconnect. Check all grouns also. I found it worked miracles and cured all my problems!!

Start at the fuse block and clean that up first. Took mine off my B and took soft metal wire on my bench grinder to all the connectors on it. Then work through the connectors between the fuse block block and the offending light(s), cleaning, dielectric grease and re-assemble. Great Dremel job. Amazing what a difference it makes. Also...use original style connectors. Much better than the crimp on stuff. Also...you may need to solder wires back into bullet end connectors or use new connectors and solder wires in. By starting with the Fuse Block you know the source is good then clean the rest up. Generally good plan to go through all of them as they get a bit tatty.

You might want to look over this web site: MGB Electrical Systems

It is for MGB but has good general info and tips.

I'm using the info to chase down several problems on my 69 MGB.

Good luck!

I would take every black wire in the front of the car and follow the wire to the ground point. All black wires are ground wires on MG's. What you describe is a sneak. The power through the light is not grounded or has a bad ground and it trying to sneak through another circut.
