We have so many old pics that I want to scan and computerize them. What is a good photo scanner, one that draws the photo in and out in one operation? Would love to put a lot of them them in a computerized album. PJ

Don't forget to label both the photos and the digital versions, who, what, where, when, that sort of stuff for the future generations you any others may not be around to tell them about them. I've got lots I've been going through that I can identify as family, but many I can't and those who might have know are long gone. So be sure to help your future great grandkids out if you haven't already.

Yeah, Thanks Mike, I plan on doing that. We have photos of the wife's family her mother gave us dating back to the early 1800s in some old albums, most have writing under the photos but not all, and as you say, the ones who can identify them are long gone, her mother passed 4 years ago and coming from Holland, it makes her side pretty tough. My dad, who knew everybody on our side, passed 14 years ago. I've done research on my side and come up with quite a few answers, frustrating. PJ

I got as far back as a direct descendent of John Jennings in the 1700s, British Naval officer, etc. It really gets involved and takes up a tremendous amount of time. Haven't dug any deeper for a couple years now.

We know that a relative got off a ship in the 1600s at Burlington New Jersey, haven't checked on who that was yet. :rolleyes2:

I suspect this might best be farmed out, between cost of the scanner, the quality of an affordable scanner, and the time to feed and save the images. There are many outfits that do this; I would call a nearby camera shop for their suggestions. My sister did this maybe 10 years ago when my parents downsized from a house to a condo - some place in Chicago. Great results that we all can share.
