Difference in voltage on front lights as per side.

On my BJ-7 as I am repairing the many wiring problems I find that the headlight and front turn signal on the right side is much brighter than those on the left. Checking the voltage, the right side is 12v, and the left approx 10v, which may be the reason. No matter what I attempt, including bypassing the existing wiring from the light switch to the left lights with a jumper cable, nothing has any effect. All the wires I have checked have continuity.

I would appreciate any advice as to what might be causing this or what else I might atempt in order to solve this vexing problem.

It has to be a bad ground -- you checked the hot wire, try checking for a good metal to metal contact for the grounding surfaces -- rust or paint could interfere. Try connecting the jumper to the engine (an unpainted surface) and to the base of the light socket.
 
Tim has the right idea IMO. You could check the butt connector in the harness where the black wires branch off to each light. They could have become corroded.
 
Also check the lamp's socket it may be dirty and rusted too.--Keoke-- :laugh:
