Did this Daimler have a Hemi originally?

That's the Daimler hemi, But I have no idea if they used it in the saloons. What say you Basil!

No Clue. I am brand new to the Daimler world and probably know less about them than anyone.

Basil

Hello all,
the Daimler Majestic Major was a real performance limousine, the picture shows the Daimler V8, but from memory it was a four litre. I'm fairly sure that it had hemishoperical combustion chambers but was not an overhead cam design. The same basic engine was used, in 2.5 litre size in the Daimler SP250 sports car. (It was originally the Daimler Dart but Dodge, I think it was, complained as they also had a Dart model) Certainly a very highly regarded power unit, giving the limousine about a 120mph performance.

Alec

In the description it says its a 6 cylnder but it obviously has a V8 in it. Would you buy something from somone who cannot even edit their post for accuracy?

We had a local collector/ racer who campaigned an SP250 (complete with a Mercedes 300sl grill grafted into the front)with that 2.5 swapped out for the 4.5. According to him the only visable difference on the outside was 1 inch to the block height. He got away with it in the under 3 litre class for a few years, then the beans were spilled. Now he dosen't race, but he loves to tell the stories. He's kinda odd that way. Nice guy, One awsome collection of cars!
We had a display model of that 2.5 engine on the showroom floor of the vintage shop I worked for. It was beautiful. Even had a clear plexiglass valve cover so you could see tha rockers.
Piman is right, hemi- pushrod.
I just diden't know what all they went in .

Hello Banjo,
That is it, I think. Later Daimlers became Jaguars and had the XK engine. (Oh, of course also the V12 as in the Daimler Double Six.)

Alec

That's the famous Turner-designed V8, that was used in 4.5 litre (4561cc) form in the Majestic, and in 2.5 litre form in the SP250 (Dart) as well as the 250 (the Mk11 Jaguar-bodied saloon). The big ones were quick! I remember when my wife and I were on holiday in Scotland and were passed by a hearse version at a considerable rate of knots - an Overtaking Undertaker?

My favorite was when the car was described as having "some" rust.

[/ QUOTE ]

To be a little more precise he said:

"THERE IS SIGN OF SOME RUST"

...sign of some rust? Yes the entire car is a sign.

Bruce

There's surface rust all over it. I don't see any cancer in the photos. It mainly looks like the paint has burned off it in the desert.

I understand that the configuration of the 2.5 liter V8 resembles the Triumph twin, but with the pushrods all on one side.

No No Guys, that is not Daimler Majestic Major,it is a six clyn 4.2 Ltr Saloon based on the confusing information provided. The Majestic Major was a similar car but was offered only with the Turner designed 4.5 Ltr Hemi V8.These V8 powered cars were capable of attaining speeds of 125 MPH.------ In response to the topic heading YES.--- Hold on a bit.I went back and looked at the pictures I missed them the first time there is definitly a 4.5 Ltr V8 engine in the car and the "V" over the air intake ports. So it is a Majestic Major. However, almost $2000 for that example is a bit much. On the other hand ,that is one sweet engine---Fwiw--Keoke

Undertaking is illegal in the UK. I don't know how those funeral directors get away with it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
