There are oodles of stories like this in Oregon. I also had difficulties getting my "BOINK" plate... though after appealing to the office that handles it ("hey, there's a Calvin & Hobbes book entitled 'Scientific Progress Goes Boink' that my kid love"), they let me have it. I have, though, one time, had to defend transferring it from a Mini to the Sprite (because the word is still on a list of banned terms).
There was a woman named Barbara Shaw here that wanted "BS" and couldn't have it; there was a guy that had a 1969 El Camino that was allowed "69" but was revoked when he tried to transfer it to a newer model.
No end to this stuff... but I like the creativity used to end-run it all.

I like this guy's style.

Hah!

Looks like some parents needed "slap upside the head."

Many years ago a friend of mine graduated med school (he is a urologist). He asked me for help with a vanity plate.
This is what I suggested:
2PCME

Sometimes you are god smacked when the MVD approves your plate. Old truck is N505JD. New helicopter is N505JD. Not complaining but was sure we wouldn’t get approval.

I was amazed when my plate went through. Was sure someone else would have already had it.

61 TR3A On the form there is a box for "Meaning of text".

Someone in the DMV here decided to create a license plate with the number 888-88-888 for his wife's car. Turns out the ticketing system uses that as the default for incorrectly read license plate numbers. They apparently have gotten thousands of tickets!
