They put some fabric, wood, and steel together ... and 'went off the track'. Then told their family they'd be home by Christmas.

Been to Kitty Hawk. On top of all the other obstacles they overcame, I can't imagine doing that this time of year. Had to have been bitingly cold. Especially in that little wooden "hanger" they had. Course that is quite a bit south of here, maybe it wasn't as bad as I think.

Was there in '72. Quite a place. They made their own internal combustion engines. And gave us the wind tunnel. :thumbsup:
 
There at museum this past summer for 3rd time, quite a feat, and to relocate from Ohio to the dunes of NC at that time in history makes one appreciate even more their dedication to the dream of flight. Wish I could link a blood line.
