Yesterday and today was “Silent Weekend” for the youth soccer clubs in this area. There’s no yelling from coaches or parents on the sidelines. It lets the kids play without the constant barrage of yelling at the kids. In short it lets the kids play the game on their own. It’s a pleasant experience.
In the game I officiated today one coach was “barking” instructions to his players. I politely reminded him that for ~today~ he could not do that. The coach then proceeded to go into a rant about his free speech being taken away. Say what???
The Silent Weekend was started years ago for the benefit of the kids.
Hard to reason with unreasonable people at times.

I doubt that... I've heard some B-A-D things said on the pitch both to me and comments parents yell to opposing players. Everyone forgets the game is for the PLAYERS.
 
Well we did have one dad on our sons team that was worse than me.
After one of our players scored a goal on one of our rivalries he "kinda" taunted the goalie who proceeded to cold cock him
That was a melee . Had to almost sit on the one dad I was talking about.
Boy the investigations by the league that started :oops:

I had a parent come onto the field after a game and tried to strike a 16 year old player.
Stupid me got between the angry parent and the kid. My AR was busy calling the police.

I vividly remember the moment that I realzed that the only thing stopping my son having a good game was my mouth.

After that, only cheer and encourage.
 
I was a soccer ref for 2 1/2 years. Never made it through the 3rd year. Tired to taking the parents abuse and the cheating by one team.

BIG mistake trying to talk to the parents... you will never be right (in their mind). Best to be friendly and say "I have to get to another game" and leave the field.

By the way, I'm in my 27th year as a soccer ref 😯

I have to say that the abuse has gotten much, much worse. The attrition rate of young kids trying to officiate soccer is very high... that’s why gray hairs like me are still on the field.
Coaches and parents take advantage and of younger refs who are learning the game.
